Music is a big part of our TV and radio shows. It becomes the backbone and signature of those shows. Over time though, even the best music gets tired and outdated. That’s exactly what happened to the Outdoor Magazine theme music.
The original music was composed by Ian Richards almost twenty years ago. That music served it’s purpose very well, but Producer Mike Avery recently revamped the look of the TV shows, so it was a great time to make a change in the sound as well.
After interviewing several composers, Mike selected a young musician by the name of Pete Birchler. Mike’s instructions to Pete were to keep the “feel” of the original music, but put a harder edge on the pieces. “I wanted it to sound like Ted Nugent playing our theme music”, said Mike.
That’s exactly what Pete did. Birchler came up with several tracks to be used for the show open, close and commercial breaks. The music also serves as bumper music for Outdoor Magazine Radio as well.
Here are some excerpts from the new theme music. Keep in mind though this music is copyrighted, and it can’t be used without permission.
